Advocacy

As the organizer for the Urban Ranch & Farm Project, Dom advocates for environmental stewardship, organic food production, food independence, sustainable energy development, waste processing, soil and water conservation, and affordable housing in a resource-based economy.

Dom strives to live and work sustainably, with a carbon zero footprint. Working from home 95% of the time means less fuel consumption, less pollution, and less time in traffic. Working with clients through digital, cloud-based workflows reduces paper, streamlines productivity, and is more efficient. Using email instead of mail and faxes means no paper waste and no postal fees. Clients review projects using FTP and online comps, eliminating overnight packages. Clients provide feedback electronically. Digitizing paper assets minimizes space requirements. When he does use paper, Dom prefers lighter stock and note pads recycled from post-consumer waste. Every bit of waste is re-used, re-purposed, recycled, or composted on premises.

Dom advocates for profitable, environmentally sustainable businesses. The energy he and his business consumes is offset through composting, recycling, alternative fuels and energy, and advocating for environmental stewardship. Sharing what he learns with clients who share this commitment, he hopes to further his journey toward sustainability—and beyond.

The Personal Side

Dom grew up in the Chicago suburb of Lombard, Illinois tending the family vegetable garden. He learned stewardship of natural resources from his immigrant family and from Scouting. Dom received leadership training in the Boy Scouts, where he earned the Eagle Scout award; and in the U.S. Navy, where he earned numerous accolades and an honorable discharge.

In his free time, Dom enjoys volunteering with a local Boy Scout Troop, exploring the outdoors with friends, and visiting neighbors. An avid storyteller and theatre supporter, Dom can often be found reading, writing, taking in a movie or live show, or drawing with his nephew.
